The CANALLS project had the opportunity to participate in the 7th Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week (AAEW) 2025
, a key platform aimed at guiding re-thinking and re-shaping Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (AEAS) for inclusive and resilient agri-food systems in Africa. This year’s event took place in Malawi from 12– 16 of May under the theme: “Rebranding Extension for Enhanced Public/Private Sector Driven Commercialization Industrialization and Inclusive Food Systems”.
During the first day, our partner African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS) represented by Nestor NGOUAMBE presented CANALLS at Panel 2 of the session “Co-Creating Sustainable Futures: Connecting Research, Advisory Services, and Farmers for Inclusive Agroecological Transformation.”
The discussion aimed to raise awareness and foster dialogue on the role of AEAS in enabling agroecological transitions. It provided a platform for partners to share innovations, field experiences, and lessons learned from ongoing initiatives across Africa and Latin America.
Specifically, the event:
1.Showcased diverse approaches, tools, and practices that support farmers in transitioning to agroecology; including innovations from research, advisory services, and farmer-led learning systems.
2.Promoted cross-learning and identify opportunities for collaboration, alignment, and scaling of agroecological initiatives across regions and stakeholders.
3.Drew lessons and evidence from the field to strengthen the case for investing in responsive, inclusive, and participatory extension systems that drive agroecological transformation.
4.Strengthened networks and partnerships — contributing to a growing Community of Practice on AEAS and Agroecology, and amplifying African leadership, farmer innovation, and multi-actor collaboration in the global agroecology discourse.
Throughout the event, the CANALLS project connected with more than 250 participants, raising awareness about its activities.
